Digitrex and Conia CPD51 Portable DVD Players.

Small, good battery life and the least expensive portable DVD player we could buy locally - was a very pleasant surprise that it had S-Video when it was under AU$250. This has been just great - we use it a lot at gigs and it's really rugged. Also, it plays just about anything you stick in it, unlike name-brand DVD players that are fussy about what type of DVD they'll play.

We always have one in our Rig, mainly with a pre-recorded set so that if we have major techincal issues, there's a ready source to flip over to.

We have 4 of these, the first was a Conia then we bought 3 more almost identical Digitrex on eBay. One remote starts all 3, which is great for video installations.

You can't turn off the OSD (On Screen Display) as is required by DVD-player based VJs, but as we only use it as a backup stream that's not an issue for us.
